Waytashek Gets Award

— Junior Megan Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) was named the College Sports Madness Summit League Mid-Major Player of the Week Monday. She helped the South Dakota State women’s basketball team to a 2-0 week.

 

Waytashek, a 6-foot-0 guard/forward, averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 31.8 percent from the field and 82.4 percent from the free-throw line, sinking 14 of 17 shots.

 

In the win over first-year Summit League opponent Denver Jan. 30, Waytashek scored 11 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished three assists and added a steal.

 

In the win over in-state rival South Dakota Feb. 2, Waytashek scored a game-high 20 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and making 10 of 12 from the foul line. She also had a game-high six rebounds and added a season-high three steals, an assist and a block. The 20-plus point game was the third of the season for Waytashek.

 

Sitting atop The Summit League, South Dakota State takes a seven-game winning streak to Fort Wayne, Ind., Thursday for a 6 p.m. game vs. the Fort Wayne Mastodons.
