Wayne State Fraternity Receives “Conditional Recognition”

The Lambda-Chi chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon was suspended from Wayne State College in Nebraska for unacceptable activities related to the use of alcohol. In addition to the alcohol problems, Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Dr. Jeff Carstens, says the fraternity has struggled with low membership numbers, which has led to the lack of funds needed for housing upkeep.
To solve these problems, the fraternity members have submitted an action plan that addresses those issues. This plan includes the prohibition of alcohol on the off-campus property.

Carstens says the enforcement of the action plan will be done by authorized Wayne State College officials who have been given access by the plan to the property at any time. There are also deadlines for having all members complete alcohol education and risk management, as well as a plan to recruit.
He says the action plan will be carried out through January 2016, after which, the fraternity will be evaluated.

The fraternity has now been granted only conditional recognition, and they are permitted to resume their activities until the College makes a decision next year about the future of the fraternity at Wayne State.
