House Democrats have unveiled at $547 billion highway bill as part of the Reauthorization of the Surface Transportation bill. That along with the President’s infrastructure plan and Senate GOP transportation proposals are all in the hopper. Waterways Council President and CEO Tracy Zea says the procedure taken by the House Dems is similar to what was done in the last Congress where they first marked up the highway bill and then added inland waterways to the measure.

He says a lot of the components in the President’s infrastructure plan calls for funding of inland waterways.

Zea says Senate Republicans have their own infrastructure bill which also includes support for inland waterways.

Zea says what still needs to be determined is how to pay for all of those infrastructure proposals.
