Wednesday, the U.S. Senate on a nearly unanimous vote approved the 2018 Water Resources Development Act or WRDA. The legislation passed the House last month. Waterways Council Senior Vice President Deb Calhoun says it’s the major inland waterways policy legislation that funds work on locks and dams, dredging and other water resource projects.

She says this policy measure combines with the previously approved appropriations bill to allow inland projects to progress.

Calhoun says the 2018 WRDA policy bill includes five important inland waterways projects that were funded in a previously passed appropriations measure.

Calhoun says the WRDA legislation strengthens the nation’s inland waterways transportation system and creates and sustains American jobs, increases exports and keeps the U.S. competitive in world markets.
