The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has advanced the Water Resources Development Act of 2020 legislation and sent it to the full House. Waterways Council Senior Vice President Deb Calhoun says this important measure coupled with an earlier bill passed in the Senate provides for construction and major rehabilitation of inland waterway projects.

She says the WRDA measure contains a cost share adjustment that changes the current 50% from the treasury’s general fund to 50% from the waterways trust fund to a 65% to 35% rate. Calhoun says that will ensure faster and more efficient completing of inland waterway projects.

Calhoun says the benefits of the cost share change will translate into more efficient and quicker transportation of ag commodities to export markets through inland waterways.

Calhoun says the WRDA bill also authorizes the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, Brazos River Floodgates and Colorado River Locks.
