The Biden administration and Congress have come together on a bi-partisan framework agreement for an infrastructure bill. The $1.2 trillion framework includes funding for several areas including waterways and ports, roads and bridges, broadband and some other non traditional infrastructure programs. Waterways Council President and CEO Tracy Zea says he’s pleased they’ve come together and that they’re calling for $16.3 billion for waterways and ports.
He says it’s encouraging the President and Congress have been able to agree on needed fixes for an aging waterways system that badly needs upgrading and repair.
Zea says they still have a lot of work to do to get the package over the finish line including determining how best to pay for it, although there are several options on the table.
The framework measure calls for new spending of a baseline over 5 years of $973 billion and new spending baseline over 8 years of $1.209 billion.
