This week, the House Appropriations Committee approved fiscal year 2021 monies for Energy and Water Development that funds the U.S Army Corps of Engineers. The overall proposed level is $7.63 billion, a decrease of $21 million below the FY 20 record funding level. Waterways Council President and CEO Tracy Zea says the passage is a big win for agriculture and inland waterways.

He says the measure is very helpful for agriculture as it funds seven new study starts and seven new construction projects to be selected by the administration., one of which is for inland waterway lock and dam modernization.

Zea says by properly funding the Corps and providing for lock and dam improvement it boosts the country’s export transportation system to get ag commodities out to our trading partners.

The House Appropriations measure passed on a party line vote of 30 in favor and 21 against.
