Waterways Council Disappointed With Water Bill Defeat

Waterways Council Disappointed With Water Bill Defeat

The House water and energy legislation was defeated last week when a controversial amendment was added to the bill. Waterways Council President and CEO Mikey Toohey says conservative Republicans bolted when an LGBT bathroom rights amendment was added to the bill and some Democrats withdrew support due to various policy riders.

He says the measure is an important piece of legislation partially because it funds more locks projects than in the past.

Toohey says they’re not giving up on the legislation and hope to get it resurrected with an amendment.

The bill contained $ 6 billion for the Army Corps of Engineers civil works and more than $ 370 million for inland waterways projects.
