The residents of the village of Lesterville, in Yankton County can only use their tap water for flushing toilets this morning. That came after testing found extremely high levels of tetrachloroethylene (tetra-clor-oh-eth-a-lean) or PCE in the water. The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources then issued a drinking water ban.
Lee Rettig, spokesman for the Yankton County Office of Emergency Management, says more tests yesterday were done to locate the source of the contamination…
The sample showed a PCE reading of one hundred eight parts per billion. The standard is five parts per billion.
Rettig says they have been working to contact all town residents…
A public meeting was held last night so town council members could answer questions.
Rettig says emergency management has been working to help residents…
Rettig says they hope to have more extensive test results back later today. About one hundred twenty five people live in Lestervile.
