Who controls expanded waters in South Dakota was a big issue in this year’s legislative session, but there was no resolution.

Senator Jason Frerichs of Wilmot has been trying to broker a compromise. He says there was another meeting this week in Sisseston, where they again heard the concerns…

 

The issue developed over the past few years, especially in north east South Dakota as natural ponds and lakes greatly expanded due to much above average snow and rain.

Frerichs says he and other representatives are looking for some middle ground between public use and landowner control…

 

Frerichs says while they had thirteen revisions of a proposal during the session, they were not able to get to an acceptable version…
