The James River Water Development District is giving more than $185,000 to several area projects designed to improve waterways.  These projects include replacing existing floodgates in Brown County and improving dams and culverts in Yankton and Hutchinson Counties.  Dave Bartel is the District Manager and says the number of applications hasn’t changed, but the types of projects have…

 

Bartel says their tax levy request has not changed in the last four years due to the stable budget.  This year, they plan to ask for close to $960,000 in property taxes to fund projects; the rest of their budget found in carry-over funds from last year.  The district has also changed their Earth Dam Program, increasing the share paid to repairing dams…

 

He says the district is very active in Yankton and Hutchinson Counties and hopes to become more involved in northern counties by raising the amount of cost-share in the Earth Dam Program.
