Water Agreement Approved

The Yankton City Commission approved an agreement with B-Y Rural Water at their meeting last night that would allow city water to flow to new developments that are annexed into the city. A federal lawsuit led to B-Y Water becoming the water provider to any area annexed into the city beyond borders set in the 1990s. That has become a problem for developments near the city limits.

City Manager Amy Nelson says they took quite a bit of time to come to the agreement…

The city will in effect sell the water to B-Y, who will in turn bill the customers in the new developments.

Nelson says both sides had to compromise…

The B-Y water board will vote on the agreement at their meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) night.
