The national Climate Prediction Center has issued a La Nina watch for the winter months in North America. A La Nina occurs when sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean cool below normal levels.
South Dakota State Climatologist Laura Edwards says there are signs pointing toward that La Nina development……
Edwards says they looked back a La Nina events dating to 1949, and see recent ones have moderated…….
Edwards says they found less of a connection to precipitation……
The ninety day outlooks now are pointing to above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation in the northern plains.
