A new group is forming to help train the next generation of leaders in South Dakota.

Former state education secretary Rick Melmer says “Leadership South Dakota” would look for a small class of individuals each year…

Melmer says they have a certain focus in mind…

The group would meet once a month, in seven towns across the state on a variety of topics and state issues.

Melmer says they would like to find a diverse group…

Melmer says the cost would be three thousand dollars per participant. He says some of that cost could be covered by a person’s employer along with some grant money.

The program is sponsored by the South Dakota Community Foundation, the Bush Foundation, and corporate partners. Deadline to apply is May 30th.
