Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed an Emergency Executive Order granting a temporary extension from the Hours of Service requirements in state law for commercial vehicle drivers. It targets those delivering anhydrous ammonia or other fertilizer products to Minnesota farmers. State Ag Commissioner Thom Petersen says that’ll be helpful for growers who’ve been hampered by a late planting season.

He says it’s also been difficult to ship fertilizer up the rivers and get product out to farmers.

Petersen says the Minnesota Agriculture Department is also helping producers recover from this year’s blizzards, which left damage on farms such as barn collapses.

Petersen says he’s also working with legislators as they wind down their session. He says negotiations are going well on the Omnibus Agriculture Bill.
