Today is Earth Day and in commemoration with that, Lyle and Garnet Perman and their family who ranch in Walworth County have been named South Dakota’s Leopold Conservation Award Winners.  Lyle Perman says it’s an honor to receive the award. He says he’s implemented several conservation practices on his Rock Hills ranch operation.

Perman encourages his fellow producers to use conservation practices as there is help available in installing those.

The South Dakota Grassland’s Coalition, Cattlemen’s Association and Sand County Foundation sponsor the Leopold Award which is a large crystal statue and $ 10,000 in cash. The Perman’s will receive it during the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association Convention in December.
