Yankton County voters have rejected a proposed property tax increase. The measure was defeated in a special election yesterday by a vote of 2396 to 1029. That was a seventy to thirty percent margin.
County Commission Chairman Todd Woods was disappointed…
The tax, a ninety cent per thousand increase on property value, would have raised about one point five million dollars, and been used for roads and bridges.
Woods says he isn’t sure what the commission can do next…
Woods says they will lose a road construction year in the process…
Voter turnout was about twenty five percent.
