After kicking the game-winning field goal in an overtime victory over Illinois State, South Dakota State kicker Chase Vinatieri was honored Sunday as Missouri Valley Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

A sophomore from Sioux Falls, Vinatieri kicked two field goals, including the game-winning 43-yarder, as the Jackrabbits prevailed over Illinois State, 27-24, on Nov. 11. Vinatieri’s first field goal of the day was a 34-yarder early in the second quarter. He also was successful on all three of his PAT attempts for a total of nine points in the game, while adding a pair of touchbacks on five kickoffs.

It marks the second time this season Vinatieri has been named MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week. He also earned the honor following the Jackrabbits’ Sept. 9 win at Montana State.
