A familiar face will be heading the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Last night President elect Joe Biden announced he was nominating former U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack for the same position in his administration. Farm groups are supporting the move.
Iowa Soybean Association President Jeff Jorgenson says Vilsack represents Midwestern agriculture well and they’re looking forward to working with him again.
He says one of Vilsack’s main strengths is his knowledge and support of the biofuels industry.
Plus, Jorgenson says Vilsack has a great understanding of the importance of trade and knows how to deal with China and will stay tough on them.
Jorgenson says Vilsack’s representation of Midwestern ag is important since the new House Ag Committee leadership is from the south and northeastern U.S.
