U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack talked about the importance of trade while meeting with Minnesota Milk Producers Association leaders at their meeting this week. He told dairy farmers trade agreements are critical for the U.S. dairy industry. Association Vice President Dave Buck says they agree with the Secretary and believe approval of the Trans Pacific Partnership with 11 Pacific Rim countries is critical for their future.
He says while the TPP deal is rather lengthy and sometimes hard to comprehend, in the long run, it will bring substantial benefits to all sectors of U.S. agriculture.
And Buck says the benefits from the TPP will continue to grow longer term.
He’s hoping Secretary Vilsack, who also backs the agreement, will be able to persuade Congress to ratify the deal.
