For the first time since being named as USDA Secretary with the Biden Administration, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack appeared before the U-S Senate Agriculture Committee. Vilsack was questioned about wildfires, baby formula shortages, supply chain issues, conservation, and high input costs for farmers. South Dakota Senator John Thune inquired about possible financial assistance for farmers that suffered damage from the May 12th storm. Thune also asked about inflation costs in agriculture. Vilsack responded by saying farmers may have the opportunity to save on costs with additional precision agriculture methods implemented by farmers. Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar thanked Vilsack for his assistance with the eradication of the bird flu in Minnesota. She also focused her questions with shipping issues. Vilsack says USDA officials have spoken with shipping companies to improve the situation.
