Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced that $349 million is available for 15 rural electric infrastructure projects. He says this is a continuation of USDA’s investment in the next generation of technology to make the electric system more reliable, efficient and effective.

Vilsack says several of the electric loans went to REA’s in the region.

He says this REA funding fits into their overall goal of rural economic development.

Regional project funding includes: $1.3 million for the Douglas Electric Cooperative in South Dakota. Minnesota Valley Electric will receive $25.5 million in loans and $44 million to Eastern Iowa Light and Power Cooperative.
