The Minnesota Vikings have released wide receiver Mike Wallace after one unproductive season with the team.

The move was made Tuesday, the day before the dawn of NFL free agency, to clear $11.5 million from Minnesota’s salary cap for 2016.

The Vikings spoke highly of Wallace’s influence on the younger wide receivers, but the 29-year-old had just 39 catches for 473 yards and two touchdowns, all career lows. They inherited his contract from Miami after acquiring him and a seventh-round draft pick in a trade that sent a fifth-round selection to the Dolphins.

Wallace’s departure leaves the Vikings with Stefon Diggs, Jarius Wright, Charles Johnson, Adam Thielen and Cordarrelle Patterson at wide receiver. Wright is the only one with 1,000 career yards.
