Coach Kyle Shanahan once thought he’d have Kirk Cousins as his quarterback when he led the San Francisco 49ers back to the playoffs.

Cousins will be on the opposite sideline instead when the Minnesota Vikings visit the 49ers in the divisional round. Kickoff Saturday is 3:35 on WNAX.

Things have worked out well for both Shanahan and Cousins even though they didn’t reunite in San Francisco after spending two years together in Washington. Shanahan has Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback for the Niners and Cousins has a lucrative contract and success with the Vikings.
