Vietnam says it will eliminate it’s 3 percent tariff on U.S. wheat imports effective December 30 of 2021. Over a year ago the tariff was 5 percent, but then in August of this year, Vietnam brought it down to three percent and now it goes away at the end of the year. U.S. Wheat Associate’s Steve Mercer says then three months ago Vietnam’s government decided to eliminate it.

He says Vietnam is not only a good market for U.S. wheat but one which is growing which makes this tariff elimination even more important.
Mercer says there are several markets in the Pacific Rim which buy U.S. wheat and this tariff news is not only helpful now but in the long run.
Vietnam imports on average about 4 million metric tons of wheat per year. And in the 2020=2021 marketing year Vietnam bought more than 500,000 metric tons of several classes of U.S wheat.
