Scientists have developed a vaccine that has tested 100% effective in protecting chickens from bird flu. Testing is underway by the USDA to see if it will also protect turkeys. Minnesota Turkey Grower’s Association Executive Director, Steve Olson is pleased the agency is moving in that direction.
Olson says while having a vaccine would be helpful, the most important tool for producers is enhanced biosecurity.
He says while producers are prepared for the flu to return this fall.
Olson says 39 Minnesota operations became eligible for restocking their flocks this week.
