The Senate Finance Committee has advanced the nomination of Greg Doud as chief agriculture negotiator with the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office to the full Senate. Iowa Cattlemen’s Association President Mike Cline says getting that position confirmed will be beneficial for U.S. agriculture.
He says it’s important to have someone with Doud’s experience to help negotiate important trade agreements, including the NAFTA modernization talks which are currently underway.
Cline says Doud understands the Trump administration’s goal of having positive trade deals that advance exports to key U.S. customers.
Cline says it’s taken a long time to get these key USDA and government positions filled, but he’s hoping the Senate will quickly confirm Doud.
