Thursday, the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office launched a new trade enforcement action against China over their tariff rate quotas on wheat, rice and corn. National Association of Wheat Grower’s CEO Chandler Goule is pleased the USTR has filed the case because U.S. wheat producers are being hurt both domestically and internationally by China’s tariff rate quotas.
He says China is meeting less than a third of its WTO obligations.
Since 2009, the U.S. has filed a total of 24 enforcement actions at the WTO and has prevailed on all of those. Goule says while that’s notable, the frustrating part is that there’s been little to show for those victories.
With this latest action, the Obama administration has brought 15 trade enforcement challenges against China.
