The United States is keeping pressure on China regarding their trade distorting farm subsidies. Earlier this year the U.S. filed a case in the World Trade Organization over subsidies of wheat, corn and rice. This week U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said he intends to keep pressing them on the issue. National Association of Wheat Growers President Gordon Stoner says China’s trade policy is very costly to U.S. wheat producers.
He is pleased Ambassador Froman is following through and holding China’s feet to the fire on the trade problem.
Stoner says if China wants to trade within and be a member of the WTO they need to play by the rules.
The recent WTO case filed by the U.S. against China claims the Chinese are providing more than $100 billion in trade distorting domestic supports, which is in excess of its WTO commitments.
