The Christmas shopping season will soon wind down, and with lots of shopping done online, the South Dakota Department of Revenue is reminding residents that a ‘use tax’ may be due on purchases made on the internet.  Doug Schinkel is the Director of the Business Tax Division…

 

Schinkel says the use tax is the same 4 percent as a regular sales tax, and a municipal tax may also be due on purchases.  He says the responsibility to pay the use tax is up to consumers…

 

While online purchases may be the most common reason for having a use tax to pay, Schinkel says there may be other instances where the tax is due…
