USDA Undersecretary for Trade Ted McKinney met with farm and agriculture industry leaders on a visit to his home state of Indiana last week. Asked about one economist’s expectation of a trade dispute settlement by China and the United States by the November-December time period, McKinney couldn’t assure that will happen but he hopes it will be that quick.
McKinney will host the Chinese Vice Minister of Agriculture in the United States in early September, not for negotiations but to maintain open communication.
The Undersecretary says he’s more optimistic on trade issues than he was just ten days ago, largely because of progress with Mexico on the NAFTA discussions.
