The U-S department of Agriculture’s Rural Development agency will provide $70.8 million dollars to help lower costs and support ten biofuel producers in Iowa who faced unexpected market losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds are being made available through the Biofuel Producer Program, which was created as part of the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act. Iowa Rural Development Director, Theresa Greenfield says “biofuels play such a key role in the state of Iowa for rebuilding the rural economy hit by the pandemic. These investments demonstrate the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to sustainable fuel markets and support for the maintenance and viability products such as corn and soybeans that supply biofuel facilities.” The announcement is part of a larger nationwide announcement made by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack for $700 million dollars to help support biofuel producers in 25 states. Ten biofuel facilities in Iowa will benefit from the program. They include Little Sioux Corn Processing at Cherokee County which will receive more than $6 million dollars. Quad County Corn Processors in Ida County is set to receive $3.9 million dollars. Siouxland Energy located in Sioux County, Iowa, will receive $4.4 million dollars, and Pottawattamie County with its Southwest Renewable Energy LLC will receive just slightly more than $3 million dollars.
