In early May, a derecho storm passed through eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota causing extensive damage to several farms by destroying facilities including grain storage bins.  The U-S Department of Agriculture announced on Monday that $20 million dollars has been allocated to assist farmers affected by the strong windstorm to help re-build structures damaged by the storm.  Specific details of the program have yet to be released, but the program will involve cost-share funding.  Steve Dick, state director with the South Dakota FSA office talks about the program.  The South Dakota FSA director says nearly every corn producing county in South Dakota was affected by not only the storm in May, but another storm that hit the same area in in July.
