Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced a one time 30 day deadline for farmers to record their organizational structures with the Farm Service Agency. The new deadline is July 1 and the reporting is to determine active engagement in farming. Nebraska State Farm Service Agency Director Dan Steinkruger the need for the reporting came about due to a provision in the 2014 farm bill.

He says those operations most impacted are where there is a general partnership or joint venture in place.

Steinkruger advises those reporting to check with their local FSA county office before new July 1 deadline.

The active engagement rule does not apply to farm entities made up only of family members. Those family farm operations are exempted from the actively engaged requirement in the farm bill.
