The USDA announced that eligible producers may now formally enroll in the Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs for 2014 and 2015. The enrollment period begins June 17th and will end Sept. 30th. South Dakota Farm Service Agency Director, Craig Schaunaman says farmers have already made their farm program elections and this just finalizes that decision.
Farmers locked in either ARC or PLC for five years, and payments will be made annually in October.
He says farmers already know if they are getting a payment for 2014, and early estimates look like those signing up for ARC will get a corn payment this fall.
Schaunaman thinks this income will be important for farmers.
Nationwide more than 96% of soybean farmers, 91% of corn farms and 66% of wheat farms elected ARC.
