United States Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced support for the dairy industry and the National Milk Producers Federation is pleased with the approach he’s taken to provide that assistance. NMPF’s Alan Bjerga says the aid for the Supplemental Diary Margin Coverage Program will effect modest increases in farm milk production history. He says the DMC has been working as it’s been intended to.

He says it’s very positive that the USDA implemented the Congressionally enacted Dairy Donation Program which will foster partnerships between dairy groups and food banks to help combat food insecurity and minimize food waste.

Bjerga says going forward, NMPF wants to work with both the USDA and Congress to make sure that any federal assistance given to dairy producers is done equitably.

Bjerga says its also positive the USDA has announced the Pandemic Market Volatility Assistance Program to compensate for some of the damage resulting from the pandemic.
