The U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended the application deadline for the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program or CFAP for another thirty days. The original deadline had been Friday February 26. The extension was requested by the American Farm Bureau Federation. AFBF Vice President Scott VanderWal who serves as South Dakota’s Farm Bureau President was pleased not only with the extension but the quick response they received.
He says the negative impacts of the pandemic are still hitting farmers and ranchers as well as small businesses and any federal aid is needed and appreciated.
VanderWal says it’s good when the federal government is listening to the needs of farmers and ranchers and then follows through.
USDA officials say they’re listening and gathering feedback so they can get aid out to as many producers as possible without focusing on one group or geography at the expense of another.
