The USDA extended the general sign up for the conservation reserve program following the original deadline of February 12. At this point the extension is on for an indefinite period of time. That’s according to Acting Farm Service Agency Administrator Steve Peterson. He says the Biden administration is in the process of evaluating the program and looking for ways to improve it.
He says the administration wants to provide incentives to enrollees so they can close the gap between the capped 25 million acres and the current 20.8 million that have been enrolled.
Peterson says CRP is one of USDA’s most popular conservation programs.
Producers interested in CRP should get in touch with their county FSA office for more information or to enroll.
