The U.S. Department of Agriculture says it will delay the Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices Rule until January 19. National Association of Egg Farmers President Ken Klippen is pleased with the decision. He says the rule is not science based.
He says when the rule was put together, rule makers refused to take into account Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service recommendations regarding outdoor access for poultry.
Klippen says it’s positive the Ag Department wants a cost and benefits analysis before it goes ahead with any regulation.
The Organic Trade Association has filed a lawsuit against the USDA seeking a judicial review of the Trump Administration’s delay of final organic livestock production rules. While the lawsuit is still pending, the USDA must answer it by mid-November.
