Newly released USDA data shows double digit growth in the number of organic farms in the U.S. Between 2014 and 2015, the number of organic operations increased 12 percent, the highest growth rate since 2008. Hartington, Nebraska organic grower Martin Kleinschmit says the trend will likely continue due to strong consumer demand.

He recommends those interested in farming organically get into the business gradually.

Kleinschmit says there is government assistance available for those wanting to transition to organic production.

Kleinschmit says the premiums farmers are paid for organic products make it worth the extra work and time involved to use this production method.
