New data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows U.S. honey bee colonies are either stable or growing slightly. South Dakota honey producer and beekeeper Bret Adee says those figures don’t give an accurate picture about what’s really happening, as honey producers are struggling to keep their bees alive.
He says honey production is actually dropping.
Adee says the best way to improve bee health is to make sure marginal land is put back into pasture and that proper soil health is utilized on farms.
In their recent report, the USDA suggests that beekeepers are able to replace lost colonies within the course of a calendar year.
