USDA Announces Repayment to Dairy Farmers in MPP

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced options for repayment to dairy farmers who participated in the Margin Protection Program for Dairy, now replaced by the Dairy Margin Coverage Program. Minnesota Milk Producers Association Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says dairy producers should check and see if these repayment options work for them.

To be eligible for repayment, a dairy operation must have participated in MPP during any year from 2014 through 2017. FSA will then calculate and verify the repayment so farmers can elect one of two options by September 20. Sjostrom says it’s positive the USDA is helping dairy producers.

He says dairy producers should also consider participating in the new Dairy Margin Coverage Insurance Program.

Sign up for DMC begins June 17 and also ends September 20.
