USDA officials have announced up to $20 million is available nationally for competitive grants through the Conservation Innovation Grant program or CIG. South Dakota NRCS CIG Coordinator Jay Cobb says the funding is for putting new technologies on farms and ranches.
He says while there is federal grant money available there is also funding for state grants in South Dakota.
Cobb says they’re looking for cutting edge type of conservation technologies. He says one that’s already underway in South Dakota treats drainage tile water for high nitrates.
Applications for the national CIG projects are due by May 10 of this year. More information can be found on line.
