Thursday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration formalized their joint agreement to regulate cell cultured meat. U.S. Cattlemen’s Association’s Lia Biondo says while they like the joint regulatory framework they do have some concerns they’d like addressed.

She says anything labeled as meat or beef should come from the flesh of a bovine animal.

Biondo says the meat inspection stamp should not be used on cell cultured products, that they should have their own stamp that has a distinctly different color.

Biondo says the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association looks forward to continual dialogue with both FDA and the USDA, livestock stakeholders and cell cultured manufacturers for a regulatory framework that ensures consumer safety and avoids international consumer confusion.
