South Dakota women’s basketball has accepted an invitation to compete in the 2017 Cancun Challenge held Nov. 23-25, at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.

The Coyotes will compete in the Riviera Division alongside the SEC’s Tennessee, the Big 12’s Oklahoma State, Marquette, Indiana State and Montana. The tournament also features 2017 NCAA Runner-Up Mississippi State headlining the Mayan Division. The Mayan Division also includes Arizona State, Columbia and Green Bay. Matchups and schedules will be announced later this spring.

“We are looking forward to competing in the Cancun Challenge next season,” said USD head coach Dawn Plitzuweit. “The caliber of competition that we will face will be second-to-none and the setup of the tournament for our fans looks absolutely unbelievable!

South Dakota is one of six teams in the challenge to boast 20 or more victories during the 2016-17 season.
