South Dakota senior center Margaret McCloud and junior guard Jasmine Trimboli each scored the 1,000th point of their careers as the Coyotes defeated Fort Wayne 90-63 inside Gates Sports Center Thursday night.
South Dakota (23-5, 14-1) clinched its second consecutive Summit League regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the Summit League Tournament. The Coyotes will play at noon on March 5. Fort Wayne (6-22, 2-13 Summit) hosts North Dakota State on Saturday to determine the final spot in the tournament.
Senior guard Tia Hemiller finished a perfect 6-for-6 from the field for a team-high 14 points. Hemiller also dished out five assists and grabbed three rebounds.
McCloud scored six points to become the 12th player in program history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Trimboli scored four to surpass 1,000 points after two seasons at Iowa Western CC.
Senior guard Nicole Seekamp scored 11 points, handed out five assists and stole the ball three times. She moved to second on USD’s all-time career steals list with 251. Seekamp now ranks second for points, assists and steals in South Dakota program history.
