The South Dakota women’s basketball team will start play in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) by hosting Creighton in the DakotaDome on Thursday.

Game time is yet to be determined.

The tournament field was announced on Monday night and will feature 35 teams that had 20 or more victories this season. USD (25-7) was the lone Summit League team to make the tournament.

The game marks the Coyotes’ fifth straight postseason tournament appearance and the team’s second WNIT tournament appearance in that time frame. USD made the WNIT field during the 2011-12 season, beating Drake 61-53 in the tournament opener before losing to Colorado 64-55 in the second round.

South Dakota automatically qualified for the WNIT after winning the Summit League regular season title with a 13-3 league record. The Coyotes were 73rd in the NCAA’s RPI rankings this season and had one of the top offenses in the nation. They finished 12th in the nation in scoring offense at 78.1 points per game and 24th in the nation in field goal percentage at 44.1 percent.

Tickets will cost $15 for adults and $5 for students and youth. Tickets can be ordered online at GoYotes.com, by phone at 605-677-5959 or in person at the Coyote Ticket Office. Unless tickets are purchased in person, all ordered tickets will be placed in Will Call and can be picked up at the DakotaDome ticket office during business hours or on game night.
