South Dakota freshman thrower Dustin Valind was named The Summit League’s Outdoor Track and Field Men’s Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. It’s the first of his career. He became the fourth different Coyote to win the award in as many weeks.

Valind recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the discus last weekend. He threw a league-best mark of 175 feet, 10 inches at the Cal State Los Angeles Twilight on Thursday night, upping his previous best mark of 160-9 by over 15 feet. He followed up with a 157-9 mark at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday.
