USD Student Awarded Truman Scholarship

The Truman Scholarship Foundation awards grants for college students to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in government, or elsewhere in public service. University of South Dakota junior, Joshua Arens is one of only 54 scholars chosen out of pool of 775 candidates.

Arens grew up on a farm just north of Yankton, but found a strong interest in Chemistry in high school….

Arens also thought it would evolve into a good job opportunity. He has maintained a strong interest in climate change, with agricultural impacts…

Arens says he hopes to use his scientific training to inform policy decisions. He says more people should get into the public sphere to discuss climate change….

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 for graduate study.
