South Dakota senior Raeshel Contreras was named one of the Summit League’s initial Women’s Basketball Players of Week on Monday.
She averaged 20.5 points while shooting 52 percent from the field and 53 percent from 3-point range in two games this past week. It’s the first time she has earned the honor.
Contreras, a guard from San Francisco, Calif., scored a team high 24 points while shooting 6-for-11 and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds during USD’s 83-78 win over Drake on Friday night. She also had a pair of assists and a steal in that game. She followed up with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting and a pair of assists in USD’s 68-60 loss at Kansas on Sunday.
The Coyotes will have a West Coast road swing this week, playing at Portland State on Wednesday and Washington on Thursday. Both games will start at 9 p.m. CT.
